About Toto
The group Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. Their name is derived from the Latin word that means "all all-encompassing," the group was determined to explore all styles of music.
In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back is a failure However, they resurface with their fourth release Isolation that features two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and the tour helped them become a household name all over the world.
After a gap of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. The album is a departure from the ballads of previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is faced with financial difficulties. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name with a different producer. The lead singer Fergie Frederiksen departs and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out.
